Structure of Five.

Steel, Rope, Latex with Ink 480 x 260 x 160 cm (variable)

This piece was crafted to complement the dimensions of the exhibition space it inhabits. Upon carefully gauging the ceiling and wall measurements, I envisioned an installation that would partition the wall in an harmonious and ideal manner. Inspired by the concept of the number five, despite the presence of only four metal poles, the fifth element emerges in the form of the rope.

The interplay between these elements is delicate and precise, epitomizing an equilibrium. Each L-shaped hook, perched upright into the poles, holds the rope in a fragile balance, where even the slightest motion risks undoing its poise, causing the metal poles and rope to cascade downward.

Gravity becomes both ally and antagonist in this intricate structure of stability and vulnerability. Through its reliance on gravity and the absence of permanent attachment between elements, the installation embodies a fluidity that allows for adjustment to the nuances of its environment. Whether it be altering the angle or width of its placement, the installation adapts seamlessly to the demands of its surroundings, ensuring a harmonious coexistence with the space it occupies. Which makes it a site specific structure for potentially multiple places.
