Difference and Similarity.
Soap, Steel, epoxy, 16 x 59 x 3 cm (2022)
As the title suggests, the sculpture serves as a meditation on both the similarities and differences inherent in the chosen materials. Despite being mass-produced, each block of Marseille soap possesses subtle variations in color, thickness, and length, lending a unique character to the otherwise uniform surface. When arranged in a repetitive pattern within the steel frame, these discrepancies become delicately apparent, highlighting the rhythm found in imperfection.
At the heart of the composition lies the paradoxical nature of the materials themselves. The soap, with its dual qualities of
softness and hardness, embodies a sense of fluidity and adaptability. Conversely, the steel frame exudes rigidity and structure, yet remains inherently flexible.
