Replica

Cotton, Sand, Concrete, Steel 40 x 12 x 14 cm

The origin of this work lies in the discovery of a weathered, rusty metal globe, an object of unknown origin that stirred intrigue and fascination within me.
Its hefty weight and a shallow indentation on one side became a source of interest and mystery.
After an attempt was made to cast and replicate the form in concrete, but it diverged significantly from the original, defying the conventional methods of casting. Yet, it was precisely this juxtaposition of similarity and divergence between the two mysterious forms that beckoned me to bring them togeter and emphasise this. By stitching and filling the pillow with sand, the three components, the rusty metal object, the imperfect concrete replica, and the tactile presence of sand and cotton, they find a harmonious equilibrium inviting viewers to contemplate the interplay between the familiar and the unfamiliar, the tangible and the intangible.
